The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) was launched by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development in 2009 at the initiative of Qatar Foundation Chairperson Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. It is an international, multi-sectoral platform for creative thinking, debate and purposeful action.
WISE Summit
This annual three-day event in Doha, Qatar, brings together over 1,000 top decision makers, thought leaders, practitioners and education stakeholders from a wide variety of sectors and more than 100 countries to seek innovative solutions to today’s educational challenges and to share best practices.
WISE initiatives
WISE is also a year-round hub for building the future of education and has established a number of ongoing initiatives, including the following:
- The WISE Prize for Education, the world’s first major prize for education, recognizes an individual or a team for an outstanding, world-class contribution to education. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Chairman and founder of BRAC, was named as the inaugural WISE Prize Laureate at WISE 2011.
- The annual WISE Awards recognize and spotlight six of the most innovative projects in education from around the world. To date, 18 projects have received WISE Awards and approximately 100 finalists have also benefited from enhanced visibility through WISE.
- Innovation in Education: Lessons from Pioneers around the World by Charles Leadbeater is a WISE publication that raises awareness of successful high-impact projects throughout the world and encourages replication and expansion.
- MyWISE, an interactive feature on the WISE website, enables the WISE community to share knowledge and best practices on a continuing basis.
- Learning World, a weekly TV magazine program on education developed in partnershipwith Euronews, broadcasts 16 times a week to all continents in 10 languages.
WISE is actively building bridges with other major conferences in the fields of education and international development in order to encourage global collaboration among key players. In line with this objective, WISE is proud to participate in LWF12.
